In Singapore, the GB2 (General Builder Class 2) builder license is issued by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA). Companies holding a GB2 license are authorized to undertake various types of building and structural works, subject to a contract value limit.
Scope of Construction Works for GB2 License
A GB2 license permits the following types of construction and structural engineering projects:
1. Building Works:
- Construction of residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.
- Structural alteration and addition works.
- Additions, alterations, repairs, and maintenance of buildings.
2. Structural Works:
- Installation of prefabricated structures.
- Construction of concrete structures.
- Installation of steel structures.
3. Other Related Works:
- Interior and exterior renovation and alteration.
- Building facade repair.
- Earthworks and foundation works (with limitations).
Contract Value Limit for GB2 License
- The contract value for a single project must not exceed SGD 6.9 million.
- If the contract value exceeds this limit, the project must be undertaken by a company holding a GB1 (General Builder Class 1) license.
